How to Test Your Website Forms

← Back to Support Center

A broken form fails silently: your website looks fine while leads bounce off it. A two-minute test gives you certainty. Do it after any form change, and monthly as a habit.

The test ladder

  1. Submit the form yourself. Use a real email address you control and put "TEST" in the name so it's easy to find.
  2. Confirm the on-page response. You should see the form's thank-you message (or thank-you page) immediately after submitting.
  3. Find the contact. In your account, open Contacts and confirm your TEST entry is there with every field captured.
  4. Check your notification. Did the new-lead email or text reach you? If not, fix notifications first — see How to Receive Leads.
  5. Check the auto-reply. If you have a welcome automation, confirm the TEST contact received it.
  6. Clean up. Delete the TEST contact so it doesn't skew your numbers.

If something didn't work

  • No contact created → the form may not be connected; re-open the page in the builder and confirm the form element references your form, then republish.
  • Contact created but no notification → notifications are off or pointing at the wrong address.
  • No auto-reply → the automation is off, or the trigger isn't set to your form.
Still stuck after those checks? Contact support with the time you ran the test and we'll trace it.
